What is Bollywood Dancing?

Bollywood dancing is a commercial name for modern Indian dancing.  Bollywood is the name used for the Indian film industry in the Hindi language, based in Mumbai (Bombay) in India. Bollywood dancing is a combination of classical Indian dance such as Bharatanatyam, and modern Indian dance such as Bhangra and Punjabi.  It has a lot of influences from other genres of dance, including Hip Hop, Latin Dance, Middle Eastern Dance, Jazz and Disco.  Bollywood dancing is a lot of fun and very expressive.  There's a lot of deep meaning behind the music in the films, and you can express this through the graceful movements of the body.

About Janani, the Dance Instructor

Janani received her Bollywood dance training in Brisbane with Bollyfunk dance under the instruction of dedicated, passionate teachers Rachael Jacobs and Andrea Lam.  The two teachers have now gone on to establish separate companies, with Rachael Jacobs forming Bollywood Connections and Andrea forming Dance Masala.  Janani studied Bollywood dancing at Bollyfunk dance for three years and enjoyed the fun, community atmosphere of the classes and was captivated by the combination of graceful and intricate yet sometimes energetic and strong dance steps. Janani enjoyed performing with Bollyfunk dance at various public events in Brisbane such as the Royal Queensland Show (EKKA) and Oxfam's Dance for your World at Queen Street Mall.

Janani then moved to Cairns.  Janani then joined Bollycise, a company established by Racheal Leigh of Star Rae Productions, to offer Bollywood Dance classes in Cairns! Racheal Leigh is currently teaching Bollywood Dance Classes with Bollycise in Brisbane.
